The Celtic Sea is Windy.....
.......enough to make the proposed White Cross offshore wind farm economically viable, in the view of Flotation Energy Ltd and its partner Cobra Wind International, which is Spanish-controlled and developed the the largest offshore wind farm -Kincardine offshore wind farm, 50 Mw capacity.
Project Manager Alister and Stakeholder Lead JessĀ gave Coastwise members a well-presented overview of the proposed development which will be approx. 40Km WNW of Hartland Point. There was a lot of interest, many questions and a very good discussion, and FEL does seem to be in a real consultation mode, inviting comments and local data (website https://whitecrossoffshorewind.com) to be sent to it which will be passed to its consultants. The main environmental consultant seems to be Royal HaskoningDSV, which does have a good reputation to maintain.
The presentation can be viewed online below, but the development is in 60-80m water depth, with 5 * 300m tall 10MW turbines supplying power for approx. 135K households (roughly North Devon and Torridge population areas - my estimate). The onshore connection is planned to be at E.Yelland, and the landfall has been changed , reflecting environmental input, to between Braunton Burrows and the golf course.
