Dave Brain and Karen Irwin spelled thes out to Coastwise members, prompting many questions and discussion.
Dave gave an overview of the EA and its work, the bottom line for North Devon being, in 70% of the water courses, a Moderate quality rating, meaning that either the chemical or biological quality is not at the highest level.
Karen showed Coastwise members the techniques employed to monitor water quality in the field.
Both speakers emphasised the need to work with others, such as farmers, the National Trust, the Biosphere and woodland owners to carry out improvements.
