Evident Eclecticism.....

......from Coastwise members who showed their range of interests during the member's session, where topics ranged from scientific surveys to a poem on a horrendously wasteful by-catch during long-line fishing in Costa Rica.

Debbie showed the techniques and results of the regular Shoresearch surveys, whose data is loaded onto a UK database to allow monitoring of changes in fauna and flora.

The Celtic Sea is Windy.....

.......enough to make the proposed White Cross offshore wind farm economically viable, in the view of Flotation Energy Ltd and its partner Cobra Wind International, which is Spanish-controlled and developed the the largest offshore wind farm -Kincardine offshore wind farm, 50 Mw capacity.

Saltmash Saunter....

.....at Annery Kiln. Coastwise members were given an expert overview of saltmarsh development projects by Chantal Brown of the Biosphere team, using the Weare Gifford sites as an example. They were jointed by Sophia from the Biosphere and Joe from the AONB.
The salt marsh projects are triggered by sea level rise and incursion. A model funded by the the Environment Agency has been developed by the Biosphere team to identify areas that are likely to flood, and where farmers might be prepared to support salt marsh development.

Coastwise North Devon starts its Autumn Programme in the first week of October with a new mix of talks in Barnstable Library, Online using Zoom and Live in the Field.

The ten events are shown below and cover a wide range of topics from Whelks to Offshore Wind Farms. There is something for everyone!
